Have you ever had to move and change schools? How many times? Well, twelve-year old Emily has moved more times than she wants to think about. Her parents have a quest to live in all 50 states and they even get paid by sponsors to do it. Where is their current move? San Francisco, CA. Emily has to admit, as much as she hates moving around, she is excited about this move because it is the home of her literary idol, Garrison Griswold. Mr. Griswold owns a publishing company but he is mostly known for his online game: Book Scavenger. Book Scavenger is a game in which people all over the world hide and find books using tracking numbers. The more books that you hide and find the more points you get. Emily is so excited because Mr. Griswold is announcing a new game on the exact day they are moving; however, Mr. Griswold is attacked on the way to the announcement and ends up in a coma. Emily is also excited to make a new friend in her building, James, who is a puzzle gamer himself. What they don't expect to find when they are exploring the city is the book Mr. Griswold hid during the attacks. This was to be the beginning of his new game and it is Emily and James' quest to find the clues and finish the quest. What they don't realize is that Mr. Griswold's attack was not random and the men are now searching for the book he hid, and Emily and James are in their way. Will Emily and James be able to solve the the clues left by Mr. Griswold before the dangerous men find them? Or will something "accidental" happen to them? Read this action packed book to see if you can help Emily and James on their quest.
This book was so much fun to read! There is action and mystery at every twist and turn. This also makes me want to have a book scavenger game in my own city. You can follow up this book with Jennifer Chambliss Bertman's second book The Unbreakable Code, the second book in the Book Scavenger series.
